Book Chat #9

Tuten and Solomon Chapter 10

Please log into your Hootsuite dashboard (https://hootsuite.com/dashboard).  If you have not already done this, please create a few tabs for the different social media networks to which you belong.  Then, examine what types of analytics are available in Hootsuite.  Run some of these analytics on your social media profiles and tell me THREE interesting things you learned about your activity on social media based on these metrics.

  1. I couldn't figure out how to run the analytics for my personal page but I was able to do it for a page I manage for the gospel here on campus. It actually was fitting to run these analytics now since we have putting out a lot of content to promote our upcoming concerts. One thing I learned was that our weekly page engagement was up about 59.5% or reaching 69 people. That's about 40% of our following. We haven't had any recent likes in the past 2 weeks, something we should be tying to work on. The post with the most engagement was one of our choir in rehearsal that was used to promote our concert. I actually tested this method out. Normally I post a picture of the flyer to promote the concerts but this type of picture, with the choir in action, seemed to resonate more with our followers.

  2. This was my first time logging into Hootsuite and adding social media accounts. I chose to add my Facebook and twitter accounts because i figured those would be the most interesting. Then I clicked on analytics, there was twitter profile overview, twitter engagement summary and detailed, and twitter aggregate and for Facebook there was overview, insights, and aggregate. I found the information gathered very interesting. My three interesting facts i learned are:

    1. My twitter engagement-detailed section showed my average daily growth is 7,385

    2. I learned my total mentions count is 6,970 and my total retweet count is 7,061 on twitter

    3. My Facebook page overview snapshot showed that my page engagement is 57 and my weekly total reach is 1,407

I found all these facts to be very beneficial because it can help you realize where your social media platforms are successful and which sections you could improve upon. I had know idea about any of these statistics until i looked at hootsuite.

  3. I connected my Twitter, Facebook (both personal and my graphic design FB page), and LinkedIn to Hootsuite. I decided to look at the analytics for Facebook and LinkedIn since I use those the most, whereas Twitter I only use for our class. For Facebook, it has pages for overview, insights, and aggregate. For LinkedIn, it offers page insights. I learned that most of the Facebook likes (40%) for my graphic design page are males between 18-24 and then (10%) of the likes are from males 25-34. On the other hand, the females that liked my page are more spread out between 18-24 (26%), 25-34 (7%), and 45-54 (7%). I wanted to look at my LinkedIn but for whatever reason it wouldn't connect. It also told me I needed more points to look at the analytics for my Twitter account, so I just continued to look on Facebook. Over the past month, there were several times where I saw spikes in the graph showing engagement, with more likes and comments on days that I posted pictures instead of status updates. My total likes has also gone up 4% overall.

  4. My Hootsuite dashboard currently has three tabs setup to harness my Twitter, Facebook, and Wordpress accounts for which I belong to. As Hootsuite users we are able to run a utility that in turn provides analytics reports to demonstrate the scope of our social media marketing. I chose to analyze my Facebook and my Twitter account, only because my Wordpress is relatively new and my Twitter account is a bit more developed. After running the Twitter Profile Overview and reviewing the report, I expanded my date range for January 1 to April 19, in hopes of larger numbers, however I have: 13 followers, 43 following, and 2 listed (whatever that may mean). Unfortunately, upon attempting to run a report for the Facebook Page Overview, Hootsuite is not allowing me the option to select my Facebook as a social network, although it is active and even on my Hootsuite Dashboard and homepage. I would like to know if anyone else experiences issues with this setting, and if so please provide me some feedback, as it would be greatly appreciated.

  5. I decided to add three of my social media profiles to my Hootsuite Dashboard. I set up my personal LinkedIn account, my personal Facebook account, and my HPU SMM Twitter profile. After adding these to Hootsuite, I analyzed a few of my related analytics. After running analytics on my various social media platforms, I learned some very interesting facts about my engagement on social media based off these metrics. Having the ability to access these analytics allows you to understand how you can improve or which areas you should focus on. You can also further understand the areas that you are excelling in and really engaging with other users.

My three interesting facts I learned are:

    1. I have gained 10 twitter followers on my HPU SMM Twitter page this month.
    2. I have 13 likes total on my Facebook page, with 0 new likes.
    3. I have had 8 new followers on my LinkedIn page.

Hootsuite dashboard is an extremely useful tool to manage your social media interactions!

  6. My Hootsuite is connected to my Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, LinkedIn, and Instagram. The page I decided to look at analytics for is The Greater High Point Food Alliance page, which is being used for Strategic Communications Campaigns. I learned that the page has a total of 737 likes and gains an average of 3 likes a day. Looking at the page, our most likes occurred during our two big events that were held in March. Our Facebook fan base does not share or comment on content very much, they mostly interact through likes. The best day for Facebook likes on the page was March 21st, the second day of our Food Summit. Hootsuite analytics allow you to examine what works for your brand and what does not.

  7. The main social media networks I use are Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. After running the Hootsuite analytics for my twitter page I found out that I have gained 10 new follows in the past two weeks. The interesting part about the new followers is that they all come on Thursdays, which is when I do my tweets for class. Also when my tweets are getting retweeted I gain a lot of new followers as well. I also found out that none of my links have been clicked yet in this past month, which makes since because I have not sent any out. If I can start adding links and more pictures to my tweeting approach I think that I can gain a lot more followers and keep the ones I have entertained.

  8. I decided to connect my Twitter, LinkedIn, and the High Point University dance team page. I chose to focus on the reports analytics provided for the dance team page as I was very eager to see how our growth over the year has been since this is a fairly new platform that we have chosen to engage on. I learned that within the past 2 weeks alone, we have raised our page engagement by 40% coming in at 21. We have also raised our weekly total reach by 200% coming in at 105. Lastly our likes are up by 3.3% totaling 315 overall. To really grow our page, I think we should start paying attention to what posts generate the most amount of engagement as well as sharing.

  9. I decided to connect my Facebook, Linkedin, and Instagram accounts. After i ran the Hootsuite analytics provided i saw that i have gained and lost followers via Instagram. On Linkedin i saw that i gain about 5 followers average a week, and that i get about 3 views per day. This is such resourceful information to know since i am currently searching for a job. Hootsuite analytics goes in to great deatail about percentages of how many women-males i follow, the average age on all social media accounts, and how many times my social media platforms are viewed. This is such a great asset for a company to have because then you can monitor if their branding and advertising is actually working. I know that if i work in the marketing, sales, and social media side of a business, Hootsuite analytics will be the first thing i check on a regular basis.

  10. I connected my Facebook, Twitter, and the page that I run for HPU's chapter of USITT. I do not make many posts on the page, so it makes sense that there aren't any analytic's for it. My facebook analytic's told me how many posts I make in a day, and how many people view my profile. This is an interesting tool for businesses, as they will be able to see all of the different analytic's that facebook and twitter have for them. If I had a business, this would be a very important tool for me to track my online activity.

  11. I studied my twitter activity. I learned that my followers really peaked at the beginning of my use of my account. I lost two followers along the course of the semester, but the rest of my follower list stayed consistent. My follower numbers did not fluctuate too much other than those lags in followers. I also discovered that the dates that coincided with my loss in followers featured more controversial posts. These posts were about equality for women – something some people still struggle to accept. Lastly, I noticed my engagement on twitter was fairly sporadic. I was posting several tweets at a time, instead of throughout the week.

  12. For my Hootsuite analytics book discussion I chose to investigate my Twitter account. After running the Twitter Overview format I found that I have been extremely active recently since the beginning of our Social Media course. My followers and favorites have been steadily increasing since the beginning of April and is a direct correlation with the amount I engage individuals and companies alike. The dates that I received the most favorites and retweets fell on days that I engage companies such as Chipotle, Oreo, or Kill Cliff. I also found that my amount that my ration of followers to following is nearly identical, showing that my engagement and response variables tend to be high.

  13. I connected my Hootsuite dashboard to my Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. This was the first time I added accounts to my dashboard so it took a little while to figure out how to initiate the analysis. However, once I figured it out, I was able to find out some interesting facts about these social media accounts and they all give a different view of my social media activity.

    The facts I learned are:
    1. I have only had one twitter mention all year, no increase or decrease in followers
    2. I have had 68 new facebook likes this month
    3. I got 6 new connections on linked in

From this data you can tell that I very rarely use twitter, and when I do I use it to look at other people’s accounts. Since I don’t tweet much, I do not gain new followers or get mentioned by other accounts. Facebook had an abnormally high activity because I recently went on a trip with friends to the mountains, and I posted a status about a new job offer. My LinkedIn usually has a steady amount of increased connections because fellow High Point University students find me, however I expect it to increase drastically during the summer when I start a new internship.

  14. I have three accounts added to my Hootsuite Dashboard. I have my twitter page, my facebook page, and my Linkedin profile. Looking at my analytics, I see that my social media engagement is strong, and that I have more activity that I imagined. I learned from this experiment that I can improve some of my social media accounts in order to increase activity. I can also see where my profile is creating traffic, and where I am doing a good job. I learned three facts from exploring these pages. I have gained 8 followers on my twitter page within the month. I have 100 new likes on my Facebook page, and I have 14 new followers on my LinkedIn Page. This definitely provided me with useful information. I will continue to check these analytics throughout the year, so I can keep improving these accounts.

  15. For this assignment, I added my Twitter and LinkedIn accounts to my HootSuite dashboard. It was interesting to see the analytics for both social media platforms. I saw that I had gained and lost followers on my Twitter account since the beginning of this semester. The followers that I gained were fellow students in the SMM class. Since I am not really active on Twitter, I believe I lost a few followers along the course of the semester if those who I am not close friends with were not interested in what I was tweeting. I do not focus on how many followers I have on any of my accounts and ensure I personally know everyone who is following my updates. LinkedIn is my favorite social media site. I loved seeing how many connections I had gained over the last month and to see that I average about two profile views per day. This is exciting to see since I am working hard to land a job after graduation. I think the analytics option available on HootSuite is a resourceful tool for marketers so they are better aware of their activity and engagement.

  16. I just set up my Hootsuite dashboard to include four tabs: my personal Facebook and LinkedIn accounts, as well as the Twitter and Wordpress accounts that I made for this social media class. Under the Analytics sidebar, there were many templates to choose from, such as Twitter Profile Overview, Twitter Engagement Summary, Twitter Aggregate, Facebook Page Overview, Facebook Insights, Facebook Aggregate, LinkedIn Page Insights, Google Analytics, Ow.ly Click Summary, and URL Click Stats. Many of these require a certain number of points in order to use them or are only available to Enterprise users, so I was unable to try them on my accounts. I was able to run the Twitter Profile Overview and found that I have 16 followers, I follow 36 accounts, and I am listed in one. This report also showed me that I had 15 followers up until April 21, when another account followed me and brought me to 16. There would be more information available had I had this account for more than just a couple months. I tried to run my Facebook account through the Facebook Page Overview; however, it told me that I had no social networks linked. I tried to delete and re-add it, but I was still unable to get it to work. This occurred with my LinkedIn account as well.

  17. I decided to add 3 of my social media accounts to me Hootsuite dashboard. I am now connected with Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Once I figured out how to create the analytic reports, this is what I found.

    1. I have barely had any follower growth on my Twitter account in the past two weeks (disappointing)
    2. I have 15 followers total, and I follow 53 accounts.
    3. My tweets get more attention if the company I am targeting replies to my tweet or re tweets my message.

This helps me because I now know I need to create more engaging content to reach a larger audience.

  18. I added my Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to my Hootsuite account. After playing around for a little I decided to run a report on my Twitter account.

    The things I learned were:
    1. I have had 2 rewteets in the last month (WAHOO)
    2. I have had no mentions since starting my Twitter
    3. I follow 23 accounts, but only have 18 followers

The biggest thing I took away from running this report was that I need to gian more followers in order to become more influential and hopefully become mentioned more often, including retweets

  19. The main social media account I use is Facebook so i decided to link with that. I also have used my LinkedIn more this year, and then I created a Twitter for this class, so I also decided to like with those platforms. Once I linked to my Hootsuite I looked at my analytics and found out:

Twitter: I only have 10 followers and I am only following 15. This was not surprising since I do not use Twitter besides for this class. I am going to start using it more though.
Facebook: I have 100 new likes on Facebook (I like a lot of stuff)
LinkedIn: I have actually gained a lot of followers this year, due to the fact I have become much more social on LinedIn.

This has made me realize the sites that I need to be more active on and which ones I need to maybe not go on so much! It took me a while to figure out how to do this, but it is very helpful for business to see which sites you are active on already and which ones you need to become more active on!

  20. I added my Facebook, Twitter and also Instagram to my Hootsuite account. After playing around for a little I decided to run a report on my Twitter account.

    The things I learned were:
    1. I have had 5 rewteets in the past month
    2. I have had a few interactions on twitter. Mainly classmates and friends.
    3. I follow 27 accounts, but only have 16 followers

The biggest thing I took away from running this report was that I need to gain followers, interact with others more, and also use more hashtags. This could help me in the future.

  21. I added my Facebook, Twitter and my Linkedin account to my stream in Hootsuite. I decided to run the analytical report on my Twitter account.
I learned that I have a very weak social media presence on Twitter with only 9 followers. I need to increase my twitter came to get more followers and retweets and have a better Twitter presence!

  22. I added Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook streams to my Hootsuite page and did an analytical report on my Twitter account. With a line graph, I was able to see when I was acquiring followers. I was also able to see how many favorites to my tweets I got, and also how many retweets. The main thing that I took away from this was that I need to be more engaging on Twitter in order to get more followers, favorites, and retweets

  23. I added my Facebook and Twitter to Hootsuite and did an analytic report on my twitter account. I learned that I prefer to re tweet instead of post myself. I also saw that I had 56 followers while I follow 139. I also saw that I am not very active on any form of social media.

  24. I decided to add my Facebook and Twitter accounts. I ran an analytic report on my Twitter account. I am not very active on my Twitter account with only 7 followers. In the reported under listed I have 2 and not sure what that is but I can assume I would need to increase that number as well. I am also only following 16 accounts. From this report I noticed I need to increase my activity to gain more of a presence in the Twitter world. I could do this by following more people, increase the use of hashtags and post more content.

  25. I added my Facebook and Twitter to Hootsuite. After running analytic reports, it is pretty clear that share/retweet significantly more than I create my own content. Also, it was interesting to see my engagement through favorites and retweets has skyrocketed since I started tweeting for this class. The last interesting thing I learned from these reports is how infrequent my postings are. While I spend a decent amount of time on social media, I rarely feel the need to post.

  26. I added all my social media accounts to Hootsuite. After running analytics reports I focused on the High Point University Dance Team page because I thought that was the most interesting. I saw that are posts are heavily liked but there are rarely any comments on them. Our page engagement is down 14.3%. We also have an average of 1 like per day so that needs to be improved.

  27. I added both my Facebook and Twitter to Hootsuite and ran analytic reports on both of them. My twitter profile overview was pretty disappointing which I had expected. I only used this account for this class so I didn’t reach out and try to gain main followers so my follower growth was basically a horizontal line. I did have great growth with retweeting and favorting tweets but I could probably do more with creating my own. For some reason, the Facebook analytics wouldn’t work but I would imagine it would say that I post inconsistently but I tag and am tagged in posts somewhat frequently.

  28. I connected my Twitter and the Orthodontists Facebook account that I work for to my Hootsuite and ran analytic reports on both of them. From my analytic report I found out that my personal twitter does not receive a lot of attention except for some random posts that I make. I have gotten 16 new followers over the past month (I think thats a record) and I have retweeted 5 things over the past month as well. For the orthodontists facebook that I analyzed I saw that they get a lot of "likes" on their pictures but not many comments. Also, the amount of views they have been getting on a weekly basis has dropped as well.

  29. I have connected not only my own twitter account to my hootsuite, but also my twitter and facebook accounts for my a cappella group. Here are three things that I found interesting:

    1. I am much more involved on Twitter than I thought I was. I have at least 4 mentions per month recently. It was really cool to go through and look at how I am engaged, and see what I could improve.
    2. With the a cappella account, a majority of our mentions are group members, and other a cappella groups. We're hoping to increase fan participation.
    3. We get a lot more fan participation on our facebook accounts where posts can be shared, and more family members are active.

  30. I connected my Facebook and Twitter pages. The analytics weren't that surprising for my Twitter page because I only use it to follow news stations and celebrities and also for the purposes of this class. My Facebook analytics showed that I was tagged in a lot of pictures and also in articles that people posted on their timelines and mine.

  31. I connected my Twitter account and Facebook account to Hootsuite. By observing the analytics, there were different templates to choose from, including overviews, tracking retweets, posts, factories, and other kinds of activity.

From the Twitter overview, I found that I follow 140 accounts and 227 others follow me.
I also found that I do not post that often on my Facebook, more of my activity comes from Twitter even though more activity results from each post on Facebook. If I really wanted to grow my Facebook page, I would need to post a little more often to engage with my Facebook friends more.

I found all of this information is very beneficial because in pinpoints the exact social media platforms are thriving. It also shows which sections could use improvement. I did not realize how many stats I could analyze by linking these accounts.
